Browsing for photos to add to a chat is always a nightmare. I don't want to default view my Google photo albums when adding a photo. default take me to the picture albums on my device (phone). browsing for photos to add to a chat is a dumpster fire. 99% of the time, I get annoyed and have to exit the app, go to my phone gallery, and share via Google Chat from there. terribly designed. I don't understand why I'm having issues with sending, and receiving messages on Google chat. I used to not have the problem period, until the past few months. the person who I talk to, there's times when I won't get a message from that person for 3-4 days, and the person told me that they have been sending me messages, but I never got them. It's an adjustment from Hangouts for sure. Chat is clunky in comparison and doesn't work as consistently. I want the option to combine chats and rooms into one page. I just want to see all of my most recent messages at the top of the page regardless of whether it's a "room" or a "chat". I mean, if forced to use, ok, but really, the chat kinda sucks! If forcing a replacement, the least it could be is better than what is replaced. For desktop, there's no browser extension and the desktop app is basically just a browser without tabs. What is spaces and why? If this is something for businesses that use Google products, leave it on that side of things. Setting up groups worked perfectly fine. No separate space needed. - Google Chat 2★
Not the consumer product to replace Hangouts with. Not enjoyable for business either. Media integration is terrible, you cannot attach multiple pictures in one message. Instead it needs to be one picture at a time which is miserable. Clicking on an image does not allow you to swipe left and right to browse the selection of pictures. You have to back out and click each individual picture. There's no way to tell in named rooms who has actually seen a message which is miserable for business. - Google Chat 2★
Really annoyed by having to switch to Google Chat. I've used Hangouts since the beginning and I'm going to miss it terribly. Chat is hard to use visually with the left alignment and no clear distinction between different people. Plus the all white (or all black) look is hard on the eyes. App is fine, platform is not. As a direct messaging system, it's minimal. Read receipts are hard to understand and give you no extra information like when a message was read. And groups/rooms are a mess. There is no moderation, so you can't delete a member's bad or off-topic post. The best you can do is scrap the room and start over. Threads have little purpose and can't be pinned or reordered or titled. On the positive side, I like the Drive and Meet integration. - Google Chat 2★
It's worse than Google Hangouts. It's frustrating this app is being pushed when Hangouts was much better for the majority of people. Image sharing is not great (only one image at a time), though Chat is better at sending large files like videos. I can't find read receipts. My hangouts groups turned into Spaces, for some reason. All of the texts appear on the same side, including your own (this is a small thing but really bugs me!). I really like the addition of the file sharing tab, however. - WhatsApp Messenger 2★
notifications are now showing up as "WhatsApp: Jane Doe: message" it's a bit frustrating and unnecessary. On a positive note, I do appreciate the transcribe feature that was added on for voice messages. I'm not usually able to hear them quickly, so being able to read them helps. This has the potential to be an amazing app, but it just has so many flaws. For starters, it only works and syncs all the messages about 5% of the time, which makes it rarely useful. I think the worst part is that it messes with WhatsApp notifications so much. I either don't even receive them, or get them about 3 days after they were sent (if I'm lucky). I tried many tricks to make it work again, but nothing seemed to fix it. I got notifications completely normally after I uninstalled. - WhatsApp Messenger 2★
Update mid '25. I have used WhatsApp for ages now, but still, they haven't sorted out yet a better solution for the storage of the media sent over the chats. Why a different folder for WhatsApp media? Why do you force me to have a photo I already have in my phone (because I took it) also in the "sent" folder as a duplicate? The photo sending function is rather messed up after the update, despite clicking on "view more" to see all of my folders I only get a handful. Accidentally sending gifs while scrolling or without adding a caption is rather irritating due to the one click and send function and for the past few days whenever I search gifs I am met with "check your device's internet connection" which hardly goes away.... - WhatsApp Messenger 2★
From my point of view, WhatsApp is a fantastic messaging app that makes it easy to stay in touch with friends and family. I appreciate its simplicity and the ability to send messages, share photos, and make voice or video calls for free. The end-to-end encryption gives me peace of mind about privacy. However, I also see the downside of constant notifications and the pressure to respond quickly. My experience with WhatsApp has been pleasant until very recently. Since the last update, when I share any link in a message, I can no longer add any caption or comment about the link before sharing (unlike before). It was.. nice Now, it has become.. amazing. If I want to video Call my Family, then I would have to Message them first, Attempt to Audio Call once, Message again, Attempt to Video Call once again, Message again, Attempt to Audio Call once again & repeat many more times. After this, the Message is delivered & THEN I can video call my Family. Yeah.. Surprisingly, this Offer applies only when I want to call my Family. Restarting Phone doesn't help. It's good to use for communication, although the bad part is you need to keep downloading everything. It costs so much space, and if you uninstall it, the conversations will be deleted. I tried sending messages and pictures today, and it just shows loading signs and couldn't send i think there is a bug i only clicked force stop and did an update and still the same. When I installed it on a new phone, it forces me to join premium in order to receive the SMS code for login verification. Any number of two-factor authentication could be used instead. Forcing payment to use the SMS is a dubious technique to railroad premium enrollment. The fact that there is no way provided to cancel premium makes this even more of a scam. Very disappointed! I *hate* the motion photo update. It's so bugged it's unbelievable. I just want to be able to send regular pictures, not everything needs to be a damn video. It doesn't matter if you deselect the motion photo option, still does it. Even if you turn it off for the whole group of photos it'll STILL send everything as motion photos. Easy for scammers to get to non premium users. it has a lot of cool functionality but they should also make people more aware that this is not a fully encrypted platform unless it's set up to be that way. Definitely adjust your privacy settings or you'll get a lot of unwanted messages or scams from profiles that share your number and even the same people who pay and can create multiple profiles on the same account. Having the live photo be the default sending mode is incredibly frustrating. I don't want to send the 3 seconds before I took the photo, I want to just send the photo. I shouldn't have to disable my live photos in my phone camera just to stop automatically sending them. Security? I guess I'll have to teach myself what that means these days. Ever since I joined a few months ago, I'm getting messages from people with beautiful girls' pictures in their profile, wanting to "get to know me better". 2-3 every day. The app works great for end-to-end messaging. However a huge fail is being able to make those peer-to-peer calls where the application will not allow calls if the other person has it on their laptop and cell phone. It will only recognize the laptop instead of the cell phone. This to me is an absolute fail that has not allowed us to call each other from overseas. - Telegram 2★
This app has changed a lot over the years, and some ways not great. I have a Note 20 Ultra and I get stuck with loading screens that take anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes, and if I need to contact someone quickly, I'm out of luck unless I use a different program. Stickers take forever as well. I have gigabit speeds and my downloading settings are set to be efficient and quick. No idea why this is happening but I'm fed up. - LINE: Calls & Messages 2★
I enjoyed using the app, but the non-existence of customer service means I may never recover my account. My old phone was damaged and the data is gone. I got a new phone and reinstalled the app. Unfortunately, I forgot the password, but for some reason, LINE does not make it easy to recover any password. The links appear broken. I use line daily for a game I play. Recently, it's been having issues uploading images. I thought maybe there was an update. And there was!! However, it did not fix this uploading images bug. I have to continually resend image. Sometimes it will eventually upload. Sometimes after 100 tries, I get frustrated and just give up. I'm so sick of moving my conversations manually when I get a new phone. And if you lose your phone, good luck, your conversations are gone! There should be some default instant back up that you have to opt out of. It's a cool app in other ways but when his happens it's so annoying I can't even remember the good things. As noted by many reviewers, the app just all of a sudden decides you cannot send or respond to chats, though you can receive them. And random people can keep adding me to their friends lists, but I cannot block them. Their customer service is not existent, their response is they can't help me. Sadly, this app was really the only way to keep in touch with elderly relatives in Taiwan since Line is so prevalent for daily life there. - LINE: Calls & Messages 2★
At first Line was absolutely amazing. However, the last six updates have given me more headaches than i can even begin to count. During calls there is an ungodly high pitched echo that bounces between sides and progressively gets louder. Constant dropped calls. Microphone issues where there are none. Messages not sending until hours later when there is service/wifi connection. No notifications. Poor sound quality. I have changed phones and services, as well as desktop line. Would be great if: 1) it had delay send; 2) increasing the font size also increases where you type your messages to send (that stays tiny). Needs more font size options like other apps. For older people/visually impaired, increasing font size only changes what you see after sending or what you received; 3) photos can be sent in original size and resolutions. Kakao currently allows full size/res transfer so that's what our friends and family have been using more and more.
